Dementia care and respite

First Call Nursing provides respite (relief for carers) in the home or in the community to help carers of loved ones who suffer with this degenerative health condition.

Our Dementia Respite Service means that carers of those with a health condition like dementia can enjoy some quality time to themselves while our experienced care workers visit their homes and look after their loved ones when required.

First Call’s services are flexible. Respite can be short or long term, for a few hours or several days; it can be pre-planned or in response to an emergency.

We can provide respite care both in the home and in the community.

Our in-home support helps carers to manage their own lives with the assurance their loved ones are being cared for by one of our friendly support team members. In-home services include:

  • meal preparation
  • help around the house
  • personal care
  • medication monitoring
  • activities and social interaction

And to help loved ones to get out and about in their local community, we can provide transport to:

  • doctors and medical appointments
  • shopping, banking, chemist, hairdressers and errands
  • recreational, social and cultural activities and outings
  • catching up with family and friends

Social support and community involvement is an important component of our dementia care and in-home respite services. Our aim is to maintain the dignity and independence of people with dementia, as well as allowing the carer to take a break knowing their loved one is in good hands.
